IDL Literacy Screener is a short series of questions used to identify if a learner has any degree of literacy processing difficulties such as dyslexia. The learner is presented with several tasks related to different elements of literacy. Those results are measured against national, normalised data to determine if that learner is presenting a particular area of weakness or learning difficulty.

The Literacy Screener and the placement tests for IDL Literacy are different.

To place a pupil on IDL Literacy, you need to download and administer the placement test available from the Resources tab. Once the pupil has completed the placement test, you can enter their score into the section of their profile and then they will be able to start the program.

IDL Literacy Screener is exclusively for identifying dyslexic type tendencies and has no effect on their literacy starting placement or progression.

The IDL Numeracy Screener tests a pupil’s ability in a number of skills related to mathematics. Whilst the screener does not provide a diagnosis of learning difficulties, it provides evidence towards getting an EHCP as well as highlighting areas of weakness in their current learning.

The Numeracy Screener is not the placement test for Numeracy by Strand. New pupils enrolled on to Numeracy by Strand will be set a placement test they must complete before being able to progress through the programme. The Numeracy Screener is a standalone programme to look for learning difficulties such as dyscalculia.

Ideally at the beginning of every academic year or new intake. This is to enable early identification of difficulties as well as any emergent weaknesses in their knowledge. Symptoms of numerical processing difficulties may become more pronounced as they grow, which makes regular screening helpful.

This is unlikely to be representative of numerical processing difficulty. Rather, it is more likely to be an indication of poor understanding of that aspect of numeracy. If a pupil scores poorly in three or more or more areas, then they are more likely to have processing difficulties.
