IDL Numeracy Screener

The IDL Numeracy Screener has been developed to provide a simple to use online test that will highlight any dyscalculic tendencies or number SEN. The test takes around 15 minutes and is perfect for screening pupils aged up to 11 years (year 6). It can be used to screen an entire year group, or for individual pupils who are showing signs of maths anxiety or particular maths difficulties.

About the Screener

The test is multi-sensory, with clear audio and visual instructions which are child friendly and easy to follow. This helps to eliminate any other factors which may impact the test, such as literacy ability, so it purely focuses on the maths capability of a pupil.

The IDL Numeracy Screener is undergoing standardisation, so you can be assured that results presented are accurate and reliable. A percentage score is provided for each of the following areas:

• Reaction time
• Number sense
• Number value
• Arithmetic
• Visual memory
• Auditory memory
• Visual pattern memory
• Number Stroop
• Sequencing

The scores are instantly available enabling you to clearly identify areas of strength or weakness. Whilst the screener won't give a dyscalculia diagnosis, it will indicate which particular maths principles a student is struggling with, and therefore assist with individual assessment, further intervention and lesson planning.

The IDL Numeracy Screener has been developed alongside Judy Hornigold, an Independent Maths Education Consultant and dyscalculia specialist to make it a user friendly, reliable tool and a great way to identify possible dyscalculia or maths SEN.
