The prestigious ceremony took place on Friday 19th October at The Waldorf Hilton Hotel in London with the award being presented by TV Personality Vanessa Feltz.

IDL Literacy won the award as the judges felt that the dyslexia programme has effectively improved the lives of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities across the UK.

Phil Wilkinson Chairman of IDLS said: “We are absolutely delighted with the recognition from NASEN who are absolute experts in the field of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).  At IDLS we are incredibly passionate about what we do and those we help and to receive this award from NASEN is the icing on the cake.  Our IDL Literacy programme is used by around 40 000 pupils per year in over 2000 schools and continues to change the lives of those with dyslexia.”

From over 80 entries IDLS was shortlisted alongside two other organisations – Classroom Monitor and The London Grid for Learning. The judges were: Sherann Hillman MBE of National Network of Parent Carers Forums; John Lamb of BATA and Ability Magazine; Malcolm Reeve of Whole School SEND and Firmament Education; Claire Vuckovic of University of Cumbria and IncludEd; and Claire Dorer of NASS.

Phil Wilkinson concludes that this award has come at a significant time for the company saying: “We have also recently launched our IDL Numeracy programme and we look forward to improving the skills confidence and self-esteem of as many young people as possible through both of our software products.”

For many dyslexic learners, difficulties with reading, spelling and writing are noticed early, but support does not always arrive early enough.

When dyslexia is identified and addressed at an early stage, learners are far more likely to develop strong literacy foundations, confidence in their abilities and a positive relationship with learning that lasts throughout their education. 📚
